Are you sure you don’t want to junk up your attic with baby stuff? There will be grandchildren … that’s my wife talking and yes, I have an attic full of baby stuff.

If you’re an apartment dweller space is limited and also things get outdated, I can see keeping a couple things like a pack and play and a crib, but the rest, I’d sell, exchange or donate.

If you have a house with an attic and a storage room over the garage and a storage locker out in town, ypou can keep boatloads of stuff you’ll never use again.

Been there, done that. It keeps coming back!! The junk is like migratory birds. It was born here and thus it seeks to return to its home. I’ve put up fences, trained guard dogs, hired a big beefy ex-Marine … its useless. It slips by them all.

That’s an excellent way to get rid of many of the things that you have left over from your baby. Always remember, you can give these things to a friend who needs some clothes for their child. My daughter gave her good friend four trash bags full of baby clothes that my grandson could no longer wear. It helped her out a lot and helped to unclutter my house which was greatly appreciated.

Cloth Diapers Many new parents will tell you diapers are the biggest ongoing expense when it comes to babies. We used to buy my son’s diapers at Costco by the case. We saved money, but I was relieved when he announced to us at age 2.5 that he was done with diapers for good. We never did Pull-ups as he never had any night time issues. If I had to do again (I’m not!), but if I hd to I’d look into cloth diapers. Here’s a cloth diaper cheat list How many diapers will you need? Up to 6 Mos. 10-12 6-12 Mos. 8-10 12-24 Mos. 6-8 Potty Learning 2-4 Cloth diapers are not a cheap initial investment, but you can buy gently used ones one these following websites-

http://www.diaperjunction.com/used-cloth-diapers.html Also check Craigslist.org. I found 12 diapers with 24 inserts for $82 (considering diapers can cost a dollar a piece, this is an excellent investment) Ebay has some excellent deals as well. You can buy handmade ones on etsy.com Here is a website explaining the different types of cloth diapers

Baby classes
When my son was little his nanny used to take him to baby classes. (Yes, we had a nanny for him, I am in the theater and at that time I was on the road a lot or working nights). One day, I took him to a music class instead of her. He was a six months old and he wanted nothing to do with it and when I clapped his hands along to the music the teacher yelled at me for assisting him. I figured out that these classes werefor the nanny to get out and meet other babies and nannies, but I don’t need to pay for that. So I found them a bunch of free story times at the NY pUblic Library and a swim class (I had to pay for that, but it was a quarter of the price of Mommy and me music) and every one was happy.

Make your own babyfood Before my son was born, I spent some wonderful time with my goddaughter. Her Mom showed me how to make baby food. Most of it involved, boiling, pureeing and mashing the food-basic skills. We’d freeze the food in ice cube trays and then serve on demand. It was great fun until I fed the baby Brocoli and her diaper exploded. But, when my son was born, I didn’t buy food unless, I was truly desperate, and I saved a lot of money buy fruits and vegetables and making the food myself. Here are some great links to make your own food–

When bringing up a baby you are correct that many things can be done to save money. Making your own baby food, buying slightly used clothes, and getting other items from family and friends can make taking care of your child a bit easier. The other things that help make taking care of a child easy is taking good advice from older parents and friends that already have children. They can give you lots of advice on how to save money and on home remedies that can help when a child is sick. This is some of the best free information you can ever receive as a new mom or dad and it can make a big difference to the way you raise your child.
I am not a big fan of cloth diapers. I think most mother’s today would rather pay more for disposable diapers than the unsanitary nature of a cloth diaper. You are correct however, they will save you lots of money.
