When to get a credit card?

I’m currently a freshman in college and am wondering when is the time to get a credit card? I currently have a decent source of income on an on-campus job as well as working over the summer. I just don’t know when is a good time to get one. I feel like it would be a burden more than it would be a tool for me, I’ve never been fond of the idea of a credit card and have always used debit.

If you could please give me your suggestions that would be awesome.
