Do Penny Auctions Save You Money?

I have known about penny auctions for a long time now but I have never really tried them out.

I know that at first look its like Wow! You can get stuff really cheap. But then to see the way it is done is kinda like, well weird.

So my question is, is there anyone out there who has tried penny auctions? And is it a way to save money or is it just more like gambling?
